Approximately 500 top highway safety and public health officials from across the country will be in attendance. The 2009 GHSA conference theme, Toward Zero Deaths: Every Life Counts, focuses on the programs and strategies needed to reduce roadway deaths. Corvette fans worldwide will converge on Carlisle Fairgrounds this weekend to meet a sports legend.

Racing icon Mario Andretti, who began his driving career in Pennsylvania, will meet with fans, sign autographs and pick his favorite Corvette at the Carlisle Fun Field on Saturday.

Named "Driver of the Century" by the Associated Press and RACER Magazine, his appearance is presented by MagnaFlow Performance Exhaust. Andretti may even be driving in his #500 ZR1.

Billed as the largest and most prestigious Corvette event in the world, the annual show features more than 3,000 Corvettes representing all generations of the classic sports car design.

Highlights include the annual Corvette Parade down North Hanover Street in Carlisle starting at 7 p.m. Saturday. A downtown tradition, the parade is named in honor of the late Chip Miller, a co-founder of Carlisle Events and a Corvette enthusiast.

Charity auction

Miller died in March 2004 of primary amyloidosis, a rare plasma cell disorder that affects the body's primary organs. A silent auction of collectibles, automotive accessories and Corvette products will be held to benefit the Chip Miller Charitable Foundation. To donate items, stop at the foundation's table at the Hospitality Tent any time Friday or on Saturday by 9 a.m.

All Corvette drivers are encouraged to start their engines at noon Saturday and give them a good rev for 15 seconds in tribute to Chip Miller and others who have passed away. This will be followed by a moment of silence.

This year's Chip's Choice Invitational Display will showcase Corvettes that have raced in the 24 hours of Le Mans, including this year's GT Class winning #63 Compuware Corvette C6.R, raced by Corvette Racing/Pratt & Miller Engineering.

It is likely to be one of the largest collection of Le Mans Corvettes ever assembled. Also, the GM team members that created the Corvette will be on hand to meet with enthusiasts and to unveil the long awaited 2010 Grand Sport.

Events, give-aways

Carlisle is one of the stops this year of the Live 8 Corvette, which sports more than 40 signatures from such celebrities as Paula Abdul, Jon Bon Jovi, Dave Matthews, Def Leppard, Will Smith and Al Sharpton. Philadelphia was host to the 2005 Live 8 concert against global AIDS and poverty, during which this white Corvette emerged as the official event car.

On Sunday, Carlisle Events will give away a 2004 Corvette street/track car to one lucky person attending. The Millennium Yellow Corvette LS1 with a 6-speed transmission was used as a Bondurant School of High Performance Driving vehicle. The Corvette giveaway is sponsored by ProTeam Corvette Sales of Napoleon, Ohio.

Corvettes at Carlisle will also feature a 1959 Corvette reunion, a Miss Corvettes at Carlisle contest, an Installation Alley on the Manufacturers Midway and an autocross sponsored by the Cumberland County Corvette Club.

Carlisle Events plays host to 10 annual collector car, truck and motorcycle events, which attract more than half-a-million people each year to its 100-acre facility in Carlisle.
