Penske Donation Goes to UTI Foundation's Brienne Davis Memorial Scholarship

PHOENIX, Dec 03, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

Universal Technical Institute (UTI) Foundation today announced Roger Penske has donated $25,000 toward the Brienne Davis Memorial Scholarship for one qualified female to attend UTI's NASCAR Technical Institute, in Mooresville, N.C. The Penske award is part of the Brienne Davis Memorial Scholarship Fund for women pursuing careers in the automotive industry. Davis, a UTI graduate and NASCAR Sprint Cup official, died tragically in 2008.

"The automotive industry needs outstanding people, like Brienne Davis, who are dedicated to top-notch service," said Roger Penske, chairman, of Penske Corporation. "This scholarship was created to provide more opportunities for women committed to pursuing technical excellence through a career in the motorsports and racing industries."

"Roger Penske's commitment to education and helping people succeed is an inspiration to us all," said Veronica Meury, vice president and executive director of the UTI Foundation. "This scholarship will help another deserving woman pursue her dream, a successful career in NASCAR."

In addition to the $25,000 scholarship, the Foundation, through the support of The NASCAR Foundation and the NASCAR family, will also be awarding three $10,000 Brienne Davis Memorial Scholarships to women who wish to attend one of UTI's nine automotive campuses across the U.S. The deadline for scholarship applications is Dec. 31, 2009.

"Through donations such as Mr. Penske's and those of the participants of the second NASCAR Official Jail & Bail, we are able to help fund the education of young women across the U.S.," said Pam Ford, NASCAR official. "Brienne Davis was a very ambitious woman who touched the hearts of many. By distributing scholarships to aspiring young women, we keep her memory alive."

MANILA, Dec. 3 – The Philippine Savings Bank (PSBank) targets 15-percent market share in motorcycle financing in the country by 2010 after it launched Wednesday night its P2-billion joint venture with Sumitomo Corporation of Japan, dubbed Sumisho Motor Finance Corp. PSBank President Pascual Garcia III said the partnership would start operations in the first quarter of 2010 with initial three to five branches in Metro Manila.

He explained that they will work with motorcycle manufacturers and dealers to be able to provide loans that will be easy on the consumers' pockets.

"We expect the market to grow very significantly. We are now ready to provide financing at lower cost than what is currently available in the market," he said.

Relatively, Sumitomo automotive division general manager Masao Tabuchi said annual motorcycle sales in the country to date is about 700,000 and this is expected to increase to over a million in the next few years.

Tabuchi said they hope to further boost growth of motorcycle market in the country through the team-up with PSBank.

He explained that "after performing extensive research on where we should go next, we came to the conclusion that the Philippines has great potential and will be the next big market."

"With the success of Sumitomo's motorcycle financing businesses in other parts of Asia, and PSBank's widespread experience in the consumer financing market, we are confident that this new Philippine venture will likewise meet similar success while providing affordable means of transportation to the public," he added. Sons of Anarchy Gets Third Season - Coming Soon!

FX has announced that the network has ordered a 13-episode third season for "Sons of Anarchy" to premiere in September 2010. Here's the press release:

Tuesday's 90-minute season two finale of FX's critically acclaimed drama Sons of Anarchy was cable's number-one program for the night, delivering 4.33 million total viewers and 2.99 million Adults 18-49. It was also the top-rated show on television in the 10:00 PM time period among Men 18-49 (1.92 million) and Men 18-34 (1.09 million), beating all three broadcast networks. The episode was the most-watched ever for Sons, surpassing its season two premiere (4.29 million total viewers).

On the heels of its stellar performance this season, FX President and General Manager John Landgraf announced that the network has ordered 13 episodes for the show's third season, which is scheduled to begin in September 2010. Creator/Executive Producer Kurt Sutter reached a deal on a two-year extension to continue his services as showrunner/writer on Sons. All series regulars are in place to return next season. Sons of Anarchy is produced by Fox 21 and FX Productions.

In addition to taking cable's top spot Tuesday among total viewers, Adults 18-49, Men 18-49 and Men 18-34, the season finale, written and directed by Sutter, was also number one in delivery of Adults 18-34 (1.57 million), Women 18-49 (1.06 million), Adults 25-54 (2.77 million), Men 25-54 (1.71 million), and Women 25-54 (1.06 million).

For its 13-episode second season, Sons averaged 3.67 million total viewers and 2.56 million Adults 18-49, which represented respective gains of +66% and +75% versus season one averages. Sons of Anarchy is basic cable's top scripted series for 2009 in delivery of Adults 18-49 and Men 18-49.

During its 13-week run, the second season of Sons of Anarchy was television's #1 series in the Tuesday 10:00 PM time period in average delivery of Adults 18-34, Men 18-34 and Men 18-49 (BROADCAST and CABLE).

"The success of Sons of Anarchy is very gratifying and the show has become a bona-fide hit," said Landgraf. "The critics have recognized Sons as one the best series on television, and the show has earned its place alongside FX's great drama series The Shield, Nip/Tuck, Rescue Me and Damages. Creatively, this season was spectacular and all credit goes to Kurt and the incredible cast led by Katey Sagal, Charlie Hunnam and Ron Perlman."
